SPCA IMMEDIATE NEEDS AND YEAR 2008 GOALS

Happy New Year to all. SPCA Penang had identified goals and some immediate needs which we hope can be fulfilled and like to share it with all here.

GOALS:
- ESTABLISH AN UMBRELLA BODY (SPCA MALAYSIA)
- BUILD A BIGGER SHELTER OF AT LEAST 2 ACRES LAND WITH LARGER FACILITIES WHICH INCLUDES A DOG/CAT PARK
- TARGET MORE CORPORATE SPONSORS TO HELP PROVIDE EDUCATION TOWARDS RESPONSIBLE PET OWNERSHIP
- ESTABLISH A MOBILE CLINIC
- CREATE A ‘STRAY FREE PENANG’

IMMEDIATE NEEDS:
- ACTIVE PARTICIPATION FROM THE PUBLIC, VOLUNTEERS AND MEMBERS

- STABLE FUNDING FROM THE GOVERNMENT AND CO-OPERATION FROM ORGANISATIONS AND THE PUBLIC IN GENERAL BY WAY OF DONATIONS

- PARTICIPATE IN OUR FOSTERING PROGRAM TO HELP CARE FOR YOUNG PUPPIES OR KITTENS WHICH ARE TOO YOUNG TO BE ADOPTED YET

We urge the public, volunteers and members to come forward to help us fulfill these goals and needs. If you think you can help in any way, please contact us as we need your support to help our four-legged friends to have a better Year 2008!

ANIMAL FOSTERING PROGRAM

As part of our website expansion plan, we will also be featuring animals available for fostering on our website starting this year. SPCA Penang are always in need of volunteers to help foster young healthy puppies and kittens that are below 8 weeks. If you wish to help foster young animals for a short period till they are ready to be vaccinated and re-homed, please contact us. NEW MERCHANDISE

As featured in the METRO press in mid September, we like to bring to your attention that we have new merchandise on sale; new arrival of T-shirts design and Calendar for the Year 2008 are currently on sale in SPCA's premise. Check out the Gifts section for more merchandise.
Fund collected for selling these merchandise will be channeled to support the shelter. Do your part in supporting SPCA by buying these merchandise as gifts for the coming festive seasons or simply for your own use.

APPRECIATION TO INDIVIDUAL

SPCA Penang would like to thank Ooi Kok Hoe for donating an LCD projector, Miss Cheah Yap Pin and Miss Chiah Yak Kian for a laptop. These equipment had enabled SPCA to make effective presentation during its education program in schools.

RM70,000 BILLBOARD SPONSORSHIP FROM PERFECT COMPANION (M) SDN BHD

Eight billboards urging people to neuter their pets have been placed throughout the state to promote the Penang SPCA's spay/neuter campaign. These billboards are kindly sponsored by Perfect Companion (M) Sdn Bhd, a Kuala Lumpur-based pet food manufacturer. This is the first time that billboards have been put up to promote SPCA's cause. We are glad to have a corporate sponsor who come forward and work on this education campaign together. The eight billboards are in Upper Penang Road, Tanjung Bungah, Bayan Baru, Komtar, Bayan Lepas coastal highway, Simpany Ampat and NorthSouth Highway. LOST AND FOUND

Check out the LOST and FOUND page here if you have lost or found a dog. The LOST and FOUND page is a community service newly provided by SPCA for the welfare of animals. For those you may want to consider adopting other people's pet which they want to give up, look up the Public Adoption.

DONATION MAKE EASIER AND SPONSORSHIP

Making a donation to SPCA Penang is easier now. For those who are keen in making a donation, you can directly bank in your donation into our MayBank Current Account: 507031513420. You can also arrange with the bank to do a monthly contribution transfer. All donation to SPCA Penang is tax deductible. Your generous contribution can make a difference to the animal shelter.
In addition, we are constantly seeking sponsorship to maintain and sustain our daily operation. We are currently also seeking sponsorship for office stationery, broadband subscription and pet food supply. If you are able to help, give us a call. Any sponsorship or donation will be greatly appreciated.

DOG TRAINING

SPCA is pleased to work with Persatuan Agiliti Anjing PP to provide training for dogs adopted from SPCA. Persatuan Agiliti Anjing PP is giving 50% discount on training fee for dogs adopted from SPCA. Check out Persatuan Agiliti Anjing PP here.

APPEAL FOR RECONSTRUCTION OF CATTERY SPONSORSHIP

SPCA Penang have reconstructed a large cattery which cost approximately RM30,000. Recently, improvement to the roofing has been made using polycarbonate glass material which cost a further RM11,500. This cattery contains 12 units cattery of various sizes and we are looking for sponsors to donate RM2,000 for each unit.

As of to date, we have the following 7 sponsors:

We like to thank these kind sponsors whom had help us to cover part of the cost.

We still have 4 units of cattery available for sponsorship. We are appealing for more sponsor so that we can pay off the cost for this cattery.

For each unit sponsored, a plaque would be made. The donor would be allowed to display either the following:

1. His/her name as the sponsor or

2. In memory of his/her loved ones or

3. In memory of his/her pets

Kindly give us a call if you are keen on the sponsorship.

GARAGE SALE

As part of the ongoing effort to raise fund, SPCA has put up some items for sale. Such items are either being donated generously by members or/and associates or just some office equipment the society would like to clear. Items are being put up on sale. Look out for these items when you pay a visit to SPCA.

JOB VACANCY - General worker with driving license

We are looking for a general worker. Candidate must be able to handle animals and also liking for animals. Minimum Form 5 qualification. Possess driving license. Starting salary RM900. Must be prepared to spend a few days at the SPCA to familiarise yourself with the nature of the job. Contact the SPCA office 2816559.

PET TRANSPORT SERVICE

SPCA Penang does provide transport to pet owners who need to send their pets to the veterinary clinic for vaccinations and treatment. A nominal fee is chargeable. The fee goes to the maintenance of the Society's van as well as expenses. Call SPCA for more information.

MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL

The Society wish to remind members to renew their membership. Your contribution will indeed help us carry on and provide whatever needed for the animals in the state.

 

LAND FOR SPCA

SPCA Penang have been flooded with demands to receive unwanted animals daily. Unfortunately, the Shelter is self-limiting. We need land and money to be able to move to a purpose built shelter. We are looking around for a philanthropist who could provide us land for at least an acre.

SPCA YOUTH DIVISION

SPCA Penang has started a Youth Division Group headed by Mr John Shebat de Silva. We are indeed trying our best to spread our wings to the youth of ages 13 to 25, to get them involve with animal welfare. We also hope to be able to stretch this concept to schools and other institutions of higher learning. For further details email to jshebat@hotmail.com

ANIMAL ADOPTION – WEEKLY COLUMN IN THE KWONG WAH PRESS (Every Thursday)

Do look out for the featured article on a weekly basis. We have many dogs and cats for adoption. They are vaccinated, deflead and dewormed. Some that are of age are also neutered. Do visit us during our kennel visiting hours or browse through our Adoption page.

APPEAL FOR DONATIONS

SPCA Penang animal population at the Shelter is at its full capacity and is never low. Our expenditure is ever increasing. We need funds to help us carry out our activities be it in education, outdoor work in rescuing/picking animals in ditches and/or providing shelter to abandoned/unwanted animals. Any donations, be it in the form of food, in kind or in cash is always appreciated. Donations sent by cheque/money order should be addressed to ‘Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Penang.
